The Mirror
See the gap between how you believe you reason under pressure and how your responses behave when ambiguity, moral tension and personal threat are introduced.
Making Sense
A five-week practice in critical thinking, clearer judgement and honest disagreement under pressure.
When the subject matters, evidence is incomplete and identity is implicated, clear reasoning becomes harder. This programme helps participants practise the skills that matter in those moments: noticing cognitive capture, framing complexity, understanding serious opposing views and making proportionate decisions without pretending certainty.
This is not a philosophy survey, debate course or AI demo. Sam’s work supplies the terrain. Your reasoning supplies the material.
Access is invitation-only for staging.
“In an age when AI can generate answers, the human skill that matters most is not simply knowing more. It is knowing how to frame better questions, test assumptions, recognise emotional capture, understand opposing arguments and make calibrated judgements under uncertainty. This programme treats critical thinking as practised reason under pressure.”
What this is
A structured practice environment using Sam Harris’s work as intellectual terrain and AI as a private mirror, argument coach and source-grounded assistant.
You begin with a private diagnostic mirror, then move through five weeks of structured practice: attention, framing, steelmanning, real-world application and an integrated final case.
The learning journey
The course moves from private diagnostic reflection to attention, framing, adversarial steelmanning, real-world application and The Hard Case.
See the gap between how you believe you reason under pressure and how your responses behave when ambiguity, moral tension and personal threat are introduced.
Notice the instant certainty, emotion or identity begins narrowing your thinking.
Frame complex problems before rushing to solve them.
Practise reconstructing Sam’s argument on free will, responsibility and compassion — then steelman a serious compatibilist counter-position.
Apply the method in a real but appropriately safe decision, disagreement or difficult conversation.
Bring the full practice together in a complex case with incomplete evidence, credible opposing values and no clean answer.
How AI helps
AI is used only where it adds real value: revealing patterns, creating private practice, coaching argument reconstruction, preserving source fidelity and supporting reflection.
Creates your private baseline.
Coaches steelman and countersteelman practice.
Answers source-grounded questions from Sam’s archive.
May extend the practice beyond the cohort as a private reflection companion.
Sam’s role
The programme includes two live sessions with Sam: an opening session on reason, emotion and intellectual honesty under pressure, and a closing synthesis on what it means to continue the practice in ordinary life.
What you practise
Philosophical terrain
Free will / compatibilism is the first full Argument Lab. The other terrains are lighter Practice Cases initially.
What you leave with
This is not a certificate of cognitive ability. It is a structured practice in becoming less likely to confuse feeling certain with being right.
Access
Cohort dates, eligibility and access are managed before invitation. Sign-up is disabled in this staging environment; waitlist registration can be enabled when confirmed.
